It's a long awaited feature, and finally, Microsoft has finally released the latest version of Skype that provides users with the ability of recording calls without using third party software. This feature is currently accessible using Skype for Content Creators version and can be downloaded here.

This new version of Skype is a big upgrade as it does not only pack the recording feature but it also adds to it the ability to use NDI enabled software which I'll cover in another video/post. In addition, the recording option is not only available for desktop users but also to mobile users on iOS. I had the chance to test it with my son using his iPad Air, while I'm on my Mac and you can watch it in the video below.

How to Record Skype Call

Once you've downloaded and installed the software, recording is as simple as going through the usual call process and just accessing additional buttons in the call window. On the lower right corner of your screen, you'll see a plus sign and all you have to do is to click on the + sign and choose start recording.

When the recording starts, a red button with timer will show on the upper left of your Skype screen. At the same time, a notice to the other party will also appear on their end that the call is being recorded.

You can either end the call or stop the recording. The recording of your conversation will then appear on your timeline. This recording will be available for you for up to 30 days, unless you remove it. In addition, you will also be able to save it to your downloads folder, forward it, or choose save as to specify which folder it will be saved in.

Quality of Skype Call Recording

While the built recorder is a great feature, I find that the quality isn't quite there yet. At least that's my first impression with the first call I've made and I'd probably have to test it more. But my initial recording compared to what I've had using Ecamm Call Recorder for Skype is still by far more superior.
