If you have turned to full time freelance work, chances are, you’re probably no longer paying your SSS contributions. But did you know that you can still continue contributing as a voluntary member or as as self employed?

The good thing is, since most of us who work online don’t really like the long waits, Metrobank, provides an online solution so you can pay your SSS contributions with just a few clicks.

Freelance Tip #4: Maintain a Healthy Cash Flow

One of the major differences between working a 9-5 job and working as a freelancer is the unpredictability of income. Unlike your regular job, you get a specific or a more regular amount of income every 15 days or so. With freelancing, you’re the captain and you’re in charge how much you’d like to receive. The possibility of earning beyond your minimum wage is so high, you’ll probably even earn 10 folds if you have the skills and the will to really work hard.
For six years working as a freelancer, I’ve experienced this scenario. There are times when the business picks up and clients are just coming in from everywhere. But just like the waves of the sea, there is the ebb and flow that you need to be constantly aware and be prepared to tackle once it gets on your way.

In today’s tip, I’m sharing with you some things to remember so you can ride the tide and maintain a healthy cash flow for your business.

1. Sell Your Services Directly

If you find all your freelance work from bidding sites like Upwork, Elance or Freelancer.com it’s time for you to make sure you have a website where you sell directly to clients. With this setup, you can ask for an upfront fee and receive payment right away. There’s no need for you wait for another 3-5 days before you actually get your pay. You also […]

Is Freelancing Sustainable: My 6th Year Anniversary as a Freelancer

This month of August marks my sixth year as a freelancer and I tell you, It’s just unbelievable. But the good thing is, it’s for real and working online, at your home is not what many people think, that it’s a scam. And I am here as a living proof of how real freelancing and online jobs is.

Now, in today’s episode I intend to speak about the reality and the life of being a freelancer and what makes freelancing special. I know I still have a lot of things to learn, but with the six years of experience that I’ve had, I do have a couple of things that I can share with you, especially to those who are still planning to start or to those who have just started. Why more and more people are joining in this new way of working and hopefully, at the end of this episode, those of you who are not yet convinced or not yet fully sold out to the idea of working on your own, will take action and just give freelancing a chance.

It’s only the first step

The first thing you have to consider is the fact the freelancing is not easy. […]

The Simple Truth About Getting a High Paying Freelance Job

It’s a common question that people ask me how do I get a high paying freelance job. Well, today, I’ll share with you my thoughts why this question isn’t something you should even ask others but something that you should ask yourself and should be answered by yourself alone too.

The truth is, getting a high paying job is real and it’s just out there. Whether you are on oDesk, or Elance, or Freelancer.com or just selling your service directly through your website, a high paying job is just a matter of – asking for it.

Our most common notion is that high paying jobs are offered to us. It’s the client’s sole decision whether they’re going to give us that dream rate or not, but the truth is, you have to know your worth and let other people know that by telling them how much you want to be paid, PERIOD!

My personal thoughts

What exactly is a high paying job for you? I have a $20/hr job and I’d say it’s a high paying job, but it may not be the same for others. Someone is probably looking at a $2000 per month project and consider it a high paying job, but to some […]

Call Center Exodus and the Rise of Online Freelance Work

I’ve worked in the call center for over four years until I finally turned to full time online freelance work. While the world hasn’t changed much for me during my four years of stay in the call center, I am most grateful that I’ve worked in the BPO industry because the trainings, most especially the sales and customer service trainings played a big role in my freelance career now.

Some of my batchmates from the original group when I first started in PeopleSupport have gone to different areas of work but some have remained in the call center. But I guess it won’t be for long.

The work landscape that the BPO industry has disrupted is yet on a course for another disruption. This time, it’s online jobs that’s taking its slice of the call center talents. We are starting to see the exodus of trained call center agents and Upwork is taking it to another level. Upwork has recently introduced the Pro Customer Service Group that entices call center agents, particularly the customer service professionals who have call center experience to take advantage of this unique group. Upwork Pro Customer Service Group

If you want to start testing the waters on freelancing with a […]

As a first episode of this show, let me just give you a brief background about myself, what this show is all about,  and what inspired me to start this one.

Prior to my freelance work, I served as a call center agent for over four years. I’ve experienced working on graveyard shifts, slept when the sun is high and got back to work when our kids are off to bed. I’ve taken calls on New Year and Christmas eve. There were great perks, bonuses and incentives. But the call center is not for me. At that time, we already have 2 kids, we were renting a small room and as I look at our kids, I knew that if I’m going to work in the call center, I may not be able to fully support their needs. I was a regular customer of a lending company and have used my ATM card as a collateral. And that just made me think even more  how will I be able to escape from the cycle of borrowing.

I didn’t have many options at that time. I’m […]
